4 Steps Towards Active Life for Adults

Step 1: Recognize the importance of physical activity

Physical activity is a term used to describe any kind of body movement. Exercise that causes your breathing and heart rate to speed up is a very good form of activities. Examples of physical activity include:

  • Walking
  • Swimming
  • Playing with kids
  • Joining a gym
  • Playing sports

 

Step 2: Recognize the benefits of physical activity

Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. It can help:

  • Reduce your risk of cardiovascular diseases, stroke and high blood pressure;
  • Reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes and certain cancers;
  • Keep a healthy bones and muscles;
  • Get to and/or stay at a healthy weight; and
  • Improve your mental health and mood;

 

Step 3: Incorporate exercise in your daily routine

  • Use the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator
  • Use the farthest car parking area at the mall and get inside through the walking tracks
  • Walk instead of taking club cars
  • Do outside activities with your kids
  • Do exercise at home, watch aerobic exercise and home training videos, and walk in the backyard
  • Walk with your friends outdoors instead of going to the café
  • Try to learn new sports activities or return to the activities you used to do before.

 

 

Step 4: Reach an acceptable average of exercise

  • Engage yourself in regular physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day (3-5 days per week)
  • Build up the 30 minutes, or more, with short bouts of 10–15 minutes of physical activity throughout the day.
