Consultation : I am not able to sleep enough hours during Ramadan. I think the change in the eating and sleeping pattern is confusing my body clock.
What do you suggest?

Reply : Studies on fasting found that Ramadan fasting doesn’t affect the quality of sleep at night or excessive sleepiness during the day. The sleep changes at Ramadan could be a result of the change in the lifestyle during the fasting month because of many reasons such as change in timing for work, social visits, shopping, and more specifically the late prayers in the last 10 nights. The claim about that late meal (Sohor) affects the sleep is untrue if we start to sleep at night and get up to have light meal before the prayer.

Based on this, we advise you to be regular in the lifestyle and avoid the sudden change in waking up and sleep time, and to get sufficient sleep at night and sleep in the day for a short time as the daytime sleep is not adequate. Also avoid excessive eating or fatty meals at night, because it increases of the acid influx into esophagus, which affects the sleep quality and increases your body weight by end of the month.
